Creating Braves of Naning’oi has been one of the most meaningful projects of my career as a documentary photographer and filmmaker. This documentary is not just a film—it’s a voice for the brave girls of the Naningoi Girls Rescue Centre, girls who have overcome unimaginable challenges to pursue freedom, education, and a future filled with hope.

The Inspiration Behind Braves of Naning’oi

Growing up in Loitokitok, I have always been close to the Amboseli ecosystem and its communities. The main community being the Maasai community, my community. When I first visited the Naning’oi Girls Rescue Centre, in Mosiro, Kajiado West, I was struck by the courage and resilience of these young girls, many of whom fled from early marriages and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) to find safety and a chance at a better life. Their stories hit home so hard for me, especially seeing their strength and determination to rewrite their futures.

It was clear that their story needed to be told, not just to raise awareness, but to inspire others to support the incredible work being done at the center and similar initiatives. This became my mission—to bring their bravery to the screen and let the world see their dreams, struggles, and triumphs. Working with Naramat charity as the funders of the project, I went back to Naning’oi and made this amazing documentary; Braves of Naning’oi. We also had great support from Heads and Hands Initiative and Nashipai Maasai Coummity Projects, and JFF.
